Otis Helps Royals to Show-Me Series Win

Interleague Play:
Chicago WSox 3 at Chicago Cubs 1
-
Bill Stein’s 4th home run provided all the offence as Jerry Koosman (13-4, 3.08) pitches a complete game as the Sox salvage one at Wrigley
Boston 1 at Montreal 4
-Make it eight straight into the break for the Expos as Jerry White (3) and Dan Driessen (10) homer in a three-run 7th. The Expos post consecutive sweeps against last season’s ALCS participants the A’s and Red Sox. Not too shabby.
NY Yankees 1 at NY Mets 2 (10)
-The Yankees fail to sweep the Subway Series as Dave Kingman (13HR) and Dick Tidrow (2-8, 1.81) reverse fortunes as the struggling Kingman leads off the 10th with a game-winning home run off All-Star game bound Tidrow.
Baltimore 4 at Philadelphia 5 (15)
-Jim Northrup’s 4th home run of the game tied it in the 9th and extended the Orioles opportunity to enter the All-Star break in sole possession of 1st place but the Phils would prevail in the 15th on a Bobby Grich error
Detroit 2 at Pittsburgh 7
-Rick Reuschel (10-6, 2.68) allowed 13 hits but still goes the distance for the win. Dave Parker (14) and Willie Stargell (20) blasted home runs off rookie Mark Fidrych (4-8, 3.74)
Kansas City 4 at St. Louis 2
-Amos Otis came off the bench today to hit a pinch-hit two run home run in the 7th to break a 2-2 deadlock. It was his 4th home run of the season and made a winner of Jim Colborn (8-6, 2.56)
Milwaukee 8 at Atlanta 10
-The Braves stun the Brewers with a nine-run 8th inning to erase an 8-1 deficit. Adding to the shock is the eruption came against Brewers ace Mike Caldwelll (3.19) and the recently unhittable Fred Holdsworth (3-3, 1.71). All Star Marty Perez had four hits and Darrell Evans went 5-for-5 for Atlanta. Charlie Spikes 11th home run of the season was a pinch-hit blast to highlight the nine-run rally
Cleveland 2 at Cincinnati 9
- The Reds sweep the battle of Ohio as Larry Biittner (4) and Cesar Geronimo (8) hit home runs and were two of the four Reds to score two runs (Joe Morgan, Bob Bailey). Ross Grimsley (10-3, 3.80) was roughed up for six runs in five innings and took just his third loss of the campaign
Texas 0 at Houston 7
-An emphatic win heading into the break for the Astros as Nolan Ryan (11-8, 3.22) K’s twelve in the four-hit shutout and NL RBI leader Mike Ivie (24HR) went deep twice and drove in four. The Astros have won six in a row
California 7 at Los Angeles 3
-It was a matchup of All-star pitchers from the City of Angels but only Frank Tanana (13-7, 2.96) looked remotely worthy as the Angles chase Andy Messersmith (12-6, 3.09) from the game in the 3rd
Minnesota 7 at San Diego 4
-The Padres are falling out of contention as the Astros and Reds keep winning while they lose series against sub .500 AL teams. Eric Soderholm (24) and Larry Hisle 2(22) power the Twins to the win today
Oakland 4 at San Francisco 2
-The A’s get an important victory to keep pace in the AL West. Billy Williams (20) homered, Sonny Seibert (9-7, 3.95) and Dave Heaverlo (17Sv, 4.01) earned the three inning save at his former team

AL East:
All six teams lose today. Boston and Baltimore are tied for 1st, 4.5 games up on the Yankees and 6 up on the Indians
AL West: The Royals are 2.5 up on the Angels and 6.5 up on the A’s as all won today
NL East: The Pirates raise their to 4 on the Cardinals and are 6 up on the Phillies and 6.5 up on the Cubs
NL West:  The Astros and Reds win again. Houston’s lead is 2.5. Copy and paste. They have the two best records in baseball
ALvsNL: The NL expands their lead again and now lead 58-50 with one more three-game set to be played by each team after the All-Star Break. The league with the best record in the 144 interleague games earns home-field advantage in the World Series
