Boggs Outduels Colborn in Arlington

Baltimore 6 at Boston 3
-Another big inning for the Orioles who score five in the 3rd inning and are now five games up on the defending champs. Jim Palmer (8-6, 2.84) went the distance for the Orioles
Detroit 2 at New York 5
-Catfish Hunter (6-5, 3.76) and Dick Tidrow (15Sv, 1.73) pitch the Yankees into 2nd place in the AL East as Lenny Randle hit his 2nd home run and Ken Griffey had three hits.
Milwaukee 3 at Cleveland 2
-The Indians continue to falter despite the power of Gorman Thomas who hits his MLB best 22nd home run in the defeat.
Minnesota 5 at Chicago 2
-Steve Stone falls to 2-8, 4.59 as the Twins move ahead of the White Sox into 5th place in the AL West with the win
Kansas City 0 at Texas 1
-Rookie Tommy Boggs (6-5, 2.81) tosses a three hitter to outduel Jim Colborn (4-4, 2.97) in Arlington
California 3 at Oakland 2
-Rookies continue to lead the Halos as Jason Thompson hits his 10th home run and Tommy John improves to 8-5, 3.38 as the Angels win the opener of a key series at the first place A’s

National League
Philadelphia 4 at Montreal 2 (11)
-A rare blown save for Tug McGraw (2-2, 2.25) in the bottom of the 9th but Sixto Lezcano and Mike Schmidt would hit consecutive triples to lead off the 11th to give McGraw the victory
Chicago 3 at New York 7
-Dave Kingman had three hits for the Mets and Bob Apodaca pitched 2.1 innings for his 5th save
Pittsburgh 2 at St. Louis 14
-The Cardinals erupt for twelve runs in the 6th to blow open a 2-2 game. Andy Hassler (16.88) gave up the last four runs and  is likely headed for AAA. Reggie Smith hit his 15th and Ted Simmons his 14th home runs of the season
Atlanta 4 at Cincinnati 3
-Darrell Evans drove in three runs and rookie Frank LaCorte got the final out for his first career save as the Braves have now won four in a row to move back over .500
San Diego 5 at Houston 1
-Al Bumbry reached base four times and swiped two bags (20SB) which set the table for three Tito Fuentes RBI’s as the Padres hold off the Astros who had a chance to tie them for 1st in the NL West
San Francisco 2 at Los Angeles 7
-Jerry Reuss (5-4, 3.66) went the distance and Henry Cruz and Rick Dempsey each hit their first home runs of the season for the Dodgers. Every team in the NL West is now 5-5 in their past ten
