Jason Thompson Has Big Day as Angels Outslug Indians

American League
Kansas City 4 at Boston 2

-The Royals overcome Carlton Fisk’s first inning 2-run home run to win their 6th in a row
Dennis Leonard (4-2, 2.36) earned the win and Marty Pattin (6Sv, 0.00) the save
Texas 6 at New York 4
-The struggling Yankees commit four errors and Jim Kern (5Sv, 0.00) remained perfect in 22+ innings by striking out the side in the 9th for his 5th save
Oakland 2 at Baltimore 5
-Rudy May (3-0, 3.03) and Nelson Briles (3Sv, 3.07) control the AL’s highest scoring offence and the struggling Jim Umbarger (1-4, 8.88) suffered the loss
California 14 at Cleveland 9
-The Indians score 6 in the 1st off rookie Chris Knapp but the Angels eventually answer with 7 in the 5th to win their 4th straight. Rookie Jason Thompson launched a pair of home runs and had 5 hits. 1975 AL Fireman of the Year Dave LaRoche continues to be more of an arsonist for the Tribe in 1976 – he got the loss, didn’t record an out and is 0-2, 16.20!
Chicago 3 at Detroit 4 (10)
-Ron LeFlore homered in the bottom of the 10th off the struggling Ron Schueler (1-3, 10.13) to win it for Detroit
Minnesota at Milwaukee, ppd

National League
Cincinnati 11 at Montreal 5
-Johnny Bench (6), George Foster (8), Mike Vail (2) and Dave Concepcion (3) all went deep for the Reds in the win
Atlanta 8 at New York 2
-Rowland Office drove in three runs and Buzz Capra (4-3, 3.22) went the distance for the 2nd straight start as Atlanta continues to roll and the Mets continue to flounder
Houston 2 at Philadelphia 3
-Steve Carlton (2-3, 1.95) struck out 10 in 8 innings and Tug McGraw (6Sv, 1.25) closed it out for the Phillies at the Vet
Chicago 1 at Los Angeles 3
-Rick Monday finally hit his first home run of the season for L.A. and Elias Sosa (7Sv, 0.00) pitched a perfect 9th once again
Pittsburgh 2 at San Diego 7
-Jim Rooker’s (2-3, 8.61) days in the rotation may be over in Pittsburgh as he doesn’t survive the 2nd for the 2nd straight outing. Brent Strom (1-2, 4.11) pitched a complete game as the Padres sweep the Pirates
St. Louis 2 at San Francisco 1
-Ted Simmons had three hits and the game winning RBI as rookie Joaquin Andujar (2-1, 1.67) and Mark Littell (7Sv, 1.45) 4-hit the Giants
