Parker Wins NL Batting Title as Pirates Pound Phillies

National League
St. Louis 9 at Chicago 2
-
Lou Brock (.337) went 0-for-3 to lose the batting title to one of his many pursuers. Teammate Bake McBride (.335) went 3-for-5 but also fell short of the hotly contested NL batting title.
New York 2 at Montreal 3 (10)
-Larry Parrish’s RBI double in the 10th was a nice way for the Expos to end another 90+ loss season – which was better than the Mets who lost 101.
Pittsburgh 13 at Philadelphia 2
-
Dave Parker goes 3-for-4 to win the batting title with a .340 mark. Dave May (34) and Gene Tenace (25) each hit two home runs as the Bucs bomb Steve Carlton (13-11, 2.77) and the Phils.
Atlanta 8 at Houston 4
-Rod Gilbreath, Chris Chambliss and Darrell Evans each drove in two as the Braves end the season with two straight wins at the division champs
Los Angeles 3 at San Diego 6

Cincinnati 16 at San Francisco 5

NL West: The Astros have won the West and will have home-field versus the Pirates

American League:
Detroit 1 at Boston 3

Baltimore 3 at New York 4

Cleveland 6 at Milwaukee 3
-Toby Harrah drove in three and Ed Crosby knocked in a pair as the Tribe avoid a season ending sweep at County Stadium
Oakland 0 at Minnesota 5
-Jim Hughes (12-9, 3.43) tosses a two hitter as the majors worst pitching staff ends the season with a shutout – go figure. Dan Ford (.340 29HR) and Larry HIsle (.292 31HR) capped off their sensational seasons with home runs.
