  • The Red Sox rallied in the first of two versus Cleveland in their home opener. Dwight Evans smacked a 2-out 3-run double in the 9th to tie it and Carlton Fisk hit a home run to lead off the 12th for the dramatic victory
  • Paul Splittorff pitched his second consecutive shutout to open the season for the Royals
  • Oakland outpowers Minnesota 16-13 in a final score that appears like a preview of the 1976 Super Bowl
  • Richie Zisk delighted his new home town fans with a game winning single in the 9th for the Rangers as California's Terry Forster falls to 0-3
  • Rookie Joaquin Andujar impressed in his debut and Ted Simmons home run off Dave Guisti in the 8th provided the edge for St.Louis over Pittsburgh. Baltimore remains the lone undefeated team in baseball now
  • Gary Nolan did not walk a batter in his 5-hit shutout of the Giants. Nolan has gone the distance in both his starts
  • Andy Messersmith shook off his early season struggles with a masterful 3-hit shutout of the Padres earning the Dodgers first home win of the season
