Fuentes Five-for-Five in San Diego Debut

San Diego, CA - Instant dividends were realized by the Padres today from their key offseason decisions. Tito Fuentes, acquired in a trade with the A's, went five for five and reigning NL batting champ Al Bumbry and Dave Kingman went deep in re-configured and re-named Jack Murphy Stadium as the Padres hammered 23-game winner Bill Bonham and the 108 win Cincinnati Reds. A team loaded with power in Steve Garvey, Dave Winfield and Kingman, the Padres struggled on their home field last season and decided to install a closer and lower fence for the 1976 season. The Padres also elected to move Dave Kingman to 3B to make room for other outfielders. So far so good for the Padres. Not to be overlooked, Danny Frisella was sensational in four innings of relief for the victors.
